1.4 Логический треугольник: слово, предмет, понятие

Первая лексическая трудность перевода заключается в определении значения слова, которое может совпадать, не совпадать, быть шире или уже в различных языках (рис. 1).

Иногда объемы понятий, значений слов в английском и русском языках полностью совпадают, соответствуют друг другу. Таких слов немного, около 30% (собственные имена, числительные, названия дней недели и месяцев, географические названия, некоторые научные и технические термины и др.). Например: Russia, twelve, July, Shakespeare (Россия, двенадцать, июль, Шекспир) и т. д.

Случается, что значению английского слова соответствует несколько слов в русском языке и наоборот. Например: variability – вариативность, неровность, неустойчивость; цель – aim, target, object, purpose, еtс.

Переведите слова, полученные путем словосложения.

MODEL:

Russian подкова < лошадь + тýфля

A newspaper, a head-wind, a lighthouse, a face (of a watch), a hair-dresser, a sun-flower, field-glasses, wall-paper, a tail-wind, a watch dog, a window cleaner, a window dresser, a plate-rack, a record-player, a tape-recorder.
