Madeliene wanted me a new Disco Doll for her birthday. Besides she would like the doll to wear a leather jacket and a miniskirt. She also wanted the doll to be called Bryony. “I’ve got the whole set, apart from this one,” she told me,” and “I really need Bryony.” I asked her why she needed so many dolls and told her that when I had been young I had just had one baby doll and one teddy bear and that I had played with bricks, and paper, and pencils.
