IV Communicative Skills.

  1. Read the dialogues and reproduce them:

1)

A.: I’m from the USA. And you? Are you Russian?

B.: No, I’m Ukrainian. My name is Kovalenko.

A.: Nice to meet you, Mr. Kovalenko. You know, I’m going to visit your country soon.

B.: Really? When?

A.: Next month. I shall go by plane to Kyiv and my friend will take me by car throughout Ukraine. They say it will be a wonderful trip.

B.: That’s fine. Travelling by car or by bus one can see more of the country.

A.: I’m going to see typical Ukrainian villages, big cities and small towns.

A.: Have a nice trip.

B.: Thank you.

2)

A.: What country are you from?

B.: I’m from the USA and Mrs. Winston is from Scotland.

A.: Are you travelling together?

B.: Yes, we are members of a tourist group.

A.: Have you visited many places in Ukraine?

B.: Quite a lot, we have been to Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and the Crimea.

3)

Tourist: I know that Kyiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe. How old is it, I wonder?

Guide: Kyiv is an ancient city. Its history goes back to the 5th century A.D.

Tourist: Is it? But it looks so modern and so beautiful!

Guide: Yes, you are quite right. Kyiv itself is a combination of historical values and

traditions with modern styles and ways of life.

Tourist: We are going to visit as many historical places as possible in your city.

Guide: You’ll have a chance to see a lot of them. The program of your visit is very

interesting.

4)

A.: Next month I’m going to Lviv on business. I have never been to Lviv. Could you tell me what places of interest worth seeing?

B.: Willingly! Lviv is my native city. My sister Kate lives there. So I’ll phone and ask her to be your guide. You’ll see how beautiful this old city is and how friendly people are there.

A.: Oh, It’s very nice of you. Thank you very much.

B.: My pleasure.
