HOW THE SUN ALSO RISES ON HEMINGWAY HOTELS

For fans of Ernest Hemingway who have exhausted every book, film and memoir, there will soon be a chance to enjoy a fresh experience: the Hemingway hotel.

With Hemingway’s writing and travels as the inspiration for a variety of services, customers will be able to sip diaquiris in the Old Man and the Sea whirlpool bath, or work out in the Farewell to Arms gymnasium.

The hotels are the brainchild of Matthew Weld, a Florida entrepreneur, who has been given approval by the author’s family to build a worldwide chain of hotels. Mr Weld admitted that the idea cashed in on Hemingway’s fame, but added that the idea would be a hit. Hemingway’s descendants have already allowed a range of furniture, themed according to his travels, to be made. The hotels will be given a style of furniture according to their locations.

Mr Weld said that he was in talks with two hotel management companies, and that the first Hemingway hotels would open within six months. He said: “There could be a Hemingway hotel in every capital in the European Union.”

The four-star hotels will make full use of the author’s experiences, with reconstructions of the types of bars the author frequented in Havana. Mr Weld added: “You could have the Death in the Afternoon bar and grill. In the hotel lobbies you could have actors dressed in safari suits who would act as guides and tell Hemingway stories to the guests.”

Other ideas include Hemingway fishing trips, ski resorts and restaurants.
